302 ho valve adjustment

I have an 87 302 ho with hyd roller lifters.Do you tighten the stud bolt to a specific torque and measure clearance and adjust with longer or shorter push rods or adjust with the stud bolt.

The studs need to be torqued....

If your rockers are not contacting the pushrods correctly, then you'll need to get a adjustable length pushrod and check it....

Thats what I thought. Thanks for confirming it. I,m getting a pop out of the drivers side exhaust and thought I may have a valve not closing.

Are you sure you don't have a leak on your header gasket or collector gasket? Is the "pop" under acceleration or deceleration?

I thought my "pop" was valve related but it turned out to be a leaking header gasket on the passenger side.

G.R. has some good points to check....also....is the car carbureted or fuel injected? You could have a rich/lean condition on that side....

Car has the factory fuel injection. It pops when I push the clutch in to shift. One pop like a firecracker in the exhaust.I thought I would do a compression check and replace the header gaskets on driver side.Hope it's a gasket.
