Basicly there are 2 main filter types, with or without internal bypass. If you have a system with provisions to bypass the filter if it becomes to restrictive (built in the engine) and not in the filter then for the most part is a Ford type application.
Some filters have this bypass built into the filter, if restriction hits a set value it then bypasses AT the filter, this type is used by GM. Where things get sticky is when a remote filter base is installed and you do not consider types or if mixing systems.
It is OK to install 2 bypass points but avoid installations with no bypass anywhere.
