Size of Radiator Overflow tank for SB Ford?
What sized colling system overflow tank is recommended for a small block Ford? My motor is a 408 CI Clevor and it currently has an overflow tank with about a 1 Quart capacity. The tank pukes when the engine warms up, then when it cools down it sucks the entire 1 Quart capacity back into the cooling system plus some air.
Do I need a larger capacity tank? The system currently has a 14 lb radiator cap. I have not tried replacing it yet to see if it is opening up to "early" Thanks! |
Check your cap first, but...
If the cooling system recovers the whole lot of the puke tank + some air... well you shurly do need a larger capacity recovery tank! The best way that I could sugest is to measure how much extra coolent is needed to top up the system when it is cold. And then add that amount to the capasity of your existing tank, pluss add about an extra 300 mills (1/2 pint). this would give you a working sized puke tank for your system. Simmo |
