Cam Usage with Stock 351W Heads
I am strongly considering ordering a new Ford crate 351W. It's the M-6007-S58 with E5AE heads and an 8.5cr. I would like to leave the heads alone and simply swap to a larger cam. I believe any of the following will give me a touch over 300hp which is plenty for me. I have narrowed it to three choices: (1) the Ford A332 which is a 214/224 with 472/496 lift (2) Lunati VDSF-256 which is a 213/219 with 483/499 lift (3) Comp XE-262H10 which is a 218/224 with 493/500 lift. I know the A332 will work with the stock pistons, heads, springs and lifters. I have read very positive things about the Comp cam and am leaning toward it. However, I don't know if it will fit. I can't find any comments on the Lunati. Does anyone have any experience with these cams and can they confirm that the last two will fit? Lastly does anyone know the HP peak on the last two and what the effective redlines or valve float is on all three? I am open to other suggestions that keep intake under 220 and don't require any head or piston mods with a flat tappet cam.

I ran the Comp XE262H in a mildly built 306. It was a great cam IMO.

Are you sure that you want to stay with only 8.5 to 1 CR ?

Thanks for the confirmation on the Comp cam. Insofar as the compression ratio goes, I want to keep this as simple as possible and not pull the heads.

Ford or comp cam will work good.
Hi,
Either cam is good, it will build cylinder pressure to make up for slightly lower compression, the extra duration on the exhaust will help the small heads breath. Also run 12 to 14* initial timing ,24* mechanical for 38* total. This will perform just as well as a higher compression motor and still be able to run regular gas. Perry.:MECOOL: |
