Upgrading a 302 with roller rockers.
I was just wondering what was involved in upgrading my current stock Ford Crate 302 rockers to alloy full roller rockers? I know the kit is available at Summit Racing.

There are several manufactures that make roller rockers from aluminum. The other option is stainless steel. One word of caution if you choose aluminum. The method by which the roller tip (axle) is retained in the body of the rocker usually entails inserting a hardened axle pin that is knurled on ONE end into the machined hole at the tip of the aluminum body. The constant heat cycling and beating that the tip incurs through normal usage will often times allow the knurled pin retention to be compromised and it can slide out of the body allowing to roller to exit the rocker body and potentially cause serious damage. If you choose aluminum check them often, and watch for any movement of the roller tip axles. This is just my opinion, but I have seen the resulting coinsequences of long term use of aluminum rockers on the street.

Try Comp Cams Pro Magnum roller rockers. Chrome moly steel and the same weight as aluminum but without all the bulk. They also make a Magnum roller rocker that just has a roller tip.

Or Crower or Comp Hi-Tech stainless. You can also increase the ratio while your making the change, if your valve springs support it.

can I ask you: I have Cobra, engine 302, block Roller, new pistons - Keith black ( flat ) Heads - Edelbrock performer RPM valve 2.02 1.9 Roller Rockers 1.6 Crane Cams Intake manifold weiand stealth carburetor Holley double pumper 750 cfm Camshaft Comp cam Magnum 280/280.
