Cobra 2x4 Intake ID..

I am hoping someone can help me ID this intake, and determine what it is originally from. Is this an original intake, or just another aftermarket one? Looks as though it is for a 289.

This is an early "low rise" dual quad intake for a 289 Cobra. This setup takes Carter AFB's (Holleys will not fit - the spacing is too close together). This is a good setup for the street, and will fit under the hood of a Mustang or a Cobra without a hood scoop. It uses two small 6.5" air cleaners, rather than the aluminum oblong Cobra type. It was offered as a "factory" option on 289 Cobras, and also in kit form from Shelby for any 260/289 engine.

I ran one of these on my '66 GT350 back in the 70's. It worked quite well for me. I have recently acquired another complete setup, and am contemplating installing it on my 289 HiPo convertible.

regards,

Jeff

Cobrajeff has it right, I think. See my gallery for a view of these installed on a 289. It was a mid 60's Ford option on the Cobra. It mounts 2 Carter AFBs at about 440 cfm each. It's a reasonable setup for the street, seems to run a little rich and I haven't been able to do much about it, but it looks pretty good, and got plenty of punch with all 8 opened up!

Wow.. thanks for such a quick reply!! Pays to ask the question in the right place.

Anyone know how much one of these is worth? I have found one for sale and am debating on the purchase.

Thanks!!

Looks like a replica though made from the early 1980's through the present day. An OEM intake would have a casting number wouldn't it? All the Shelby service parts (bought from Shelby or Ford) had a Shelby part number on them.

I see these listed at www.cobranda.com
