Is this a problem? I picked up my 331
 
this morning, got it on the engine stand, turned it over and saw damage where the rear oil seal goes... I'm I going to have an oil leak because of this damage? I'm a novice at this.. %/

channel for youre rubber seal on the rear main bearing cap. I would try it with some 3-m yellow adhesive between the cap and rubber and then normal silicone in the corners where the rest of the pan gasket meets it. if the pan fits tight when the rubber is compressed it shouldnt move or leak. If there is a leak it will come from the main seal.

If the seal is installed correctly with a good sealer I think you will be OK,The pan compresses the seal into the groove. However I would make the engine builder aware of it with photos. Did the builder supply the block? Is the fracture fresh, does it look like it happened during shipping?

I picked it up this morning locally.. Looks like an old fracture, not fresh. I sent the builder an email already with the same picture asking them if it'll be a problem. I'm guessing the builder saw it and thought it wasn't going to be a problem.. but I'm just surprized to see such damage on an engine that I spent so much $$$ on already.. They advertise in national magazines and sounded competent to me over the course of the build... Lesson learned: do full inspection of engine before taking possession..
