Mechanical or Electric Fuel Pump
Are you running electrical or mechanical fuel pumps out there? Which manufacturer?

What makes you ask the question?
I am running both mech and elec in both high performance and daily driver vehicles. The application, need, and end result are more important than the operating system.

I drive my cobra on the street, mostly. I am running maybe 300 HP max, and I normally dont get the revs past 4500 RPM. I drive it quite a bit, about 3,000 miles a year. I have a Holley Blue electric pump, it's kind of noisy and I have had some fuel pressure fluctuation (I have a holley regulator before the pressure gauge). I was shopping around for a new motor and I noticed most of the pics of 351's I see have mechanical fuel pumps.
I also noticed that my oil temp sensor was connected to the plate where the fuel pump would normally be and I was wondering if this was normal.
Thanks!

With your low rpm driving and smallish HP you will be just fine with a quality mechanical pump. The electric aftermarket pumps do have a use, but mostly they are installed for bragging rights and lack of proper fuel system set up with mechanical pumps. Remember, 427 Thunderbolts ran fairly well with a mechanical pump, as well as many, many other race vehicles.
The oil temp sensor tapped into the fuel pump block off plate seems like a cheap set up. The oil there is splash only and not a very good place to indicate the temp of the bulk of the oil in the system. Adding a bung to the side of your oil pan would be best.

Thanks for your answer, cleandan. I will move the sensor to the oil pan (I think I have a bung already on there...) and switch over to a mechanical pump. I think it's safer and I wont miss the whine...

Magoo, do you know if there's a fuel pump eccentric on the cam gear already?
