Installation Tip
At the suggestion of a fellow Cobra enthusiast I am posting a suggestion to make installation of intake manifilds a little easier. When installing an intake I made up a set of four "guide pins" to align the intake gaskets and the manifold without having to slide it around. I cut four 3" lengths of 5/16-18 threaded rod, rounded off the "top end" to get rid of burrs and applied a 2" length of shrink tubing to the top end of the rod to prevent the threads from nicking or scratching something they shouldn't. I screw the four guides into the end holes on the cylinder heads before installing the gaskets. The bolt holes in the intake are large enough to clear the shrink tubing easily and the manifold drops right into place. The guides are removed after installing the other 8 bolts finger tight.
By the way, the same guides can be used to install thermostat housings too.

Great idea! Could never do this on all the Chevys I grew up with.

Thanks for the tip. I'm about to replace the intake gasket on my 460.
Glad I chanced on this.
