I am the Swede again!
Looked in the Summit racing catalogue, I was looking for a 351W stroker kit, but could not find a ready kit, any proposals? Next question, I have seen that they put on 4V heads to the 351W, but how? Maybe a strange question but I am wondering. Have a good Saturday evening / afternoon. It is 10 AM over here now. |

Sorry I don't know of any 'kit' to punch out a 351 to 427. No doubt max out the bore size and stuff a monster crank in the block. I'd bet you would have to grind away at places in the block to get clearance for the stroke. Special pistons and connecting rods would also be required. Then compression ratio would go WAY up due to the increased cubic inch displacement, so the combustion chambers would have to be sized properly to match the piston dome shape. It aint gonna be easy... :D Stefan it's generally a good idea to keep your 'threads' limited in number concerning a particular project. I'm surprised to hear that Summit doesn't carry one. Ford Racing offers a couple of stroker assemblies as do many of the Mustang Hi.Per. shops. I think the most common in a stock block would be about 393-396 inches. The 4V head talk would have to be regarding a Cleveland, Windsors only came with 4V heads in the first and maybe the second year of production, and they wasn't any difference performance wise. Any aftermarket head will likely outflow even a tricked out stock set and for less money. By the time you add up the valves, springs and machine work on a stock set a pair of aftermarket heads look pretty reasonable.

I suggest you look for a copy of George Reid's book "How to Build Big-inch Ford Small Blocks". I got my copy on Amazon.com. The 351/427 stroker kit is available from a number of sources (Coast High Performance springs to mind first) but it makes some builders nervous because the wrist pin sits so far up into the oil ring groove. If I were you I think I'd spring for a crate motor with a good warranty if you want a 427W since you're so far away from the suppliers. Just my $0.02. Bill Stradtner |

I used a probe kit. It costs about $1000.00 for 60 over forged pistons, forged h rods , probe crank and rings and berrings yelds 402 with no block modifcation. 427 kit from powerhouse (www.enginekits.com) $845.00 requires block modifcation. I like the way mine turned out, burns rubber in second with out dumping the clutch. good luck.

stroker kit
There are a lot of stroker kits available for Ford motors. Most require the block to be notched so the rod will clear the lower part of the cylinder. It's a simple procedure. Install the crank and torque it down. Using lot of 30 weight oil, install the pistons / rods with no rings into the cylinder. Don't forget to use the rod bearings. Do two cylinders at a time. Number one and five, two and six, etc. Slowly rotate the crank till the rod is close the the lower cylinder, mark where is touchs. Rotate the other way till the other rod is close to the cylinder and mark it. Use a grinder to emove a small amount of the cylinder till you have 1/10" clearance. Keep the filings off the bearing area. Keep the parts clean! Disc brake cleaner, air, soft rags what ever it takes. I hope the pictures will explain it better than I can.

You are time and dollars ahead with an assembled short block. We have them in sizes up to 460 cubic inches.

Good information Dwigth, looks interesting because this is what I like to work with. I am also considering a short engine, but there are some doubths on where to get the hold of remaining parts over here and also how to get it into Sweden without too much customs struggling. I will have a closer look at Theengineshop and will call you, where are you, good to know the time different from here. Thanks. |
New engine 351W stroker
Hi its Stefan from sweden again, I took advise from all of you earlier this year! I have a Keith Craft 408 stroker engine in my garage now, so I am a happy sweede.
Have also purchased an AOD trans, have had it reinforced and equipped with a TransGo AOD-HP kit. What I need now is an AOD TV link complete and also the correct Flexplate. Hope to hear from any of you again. |

The Lokar KD2AODHT AOD kickdown kit works well. It requires the Lokar SRK 4000 cable bracket also. The flexplate depends on your engine balance, 28 oz, or 50 oz. 164 tooth 14 1/4" diameter. Ebay usually has SFI certified ones in both weights. You will also need a block plate to go between the engine and transmission. Ford F4TZ-7007-A works ok. Good luck. Sydney |

I need a 28 oz, 164 tooth balanced flexplate, I got one with the engine but it does not fit the AOD converter because the off-set in the flexplate have a too small diameter! I will look at Ebay.
