351 cleveland install
 

I am installing a cleveland in my classic roadster, I presently have a 302 in it and I am wondering what changes must be made. I am concerened about height! If anyone can give me some pointers I would greatly appreciate it.

What kind of intake and what carb would be a good match?

Should be a direct bolt in. Lots of intakes are available at different
heights but a safe bet for height and excellent performance would
be a Blue Thunder dual plane. You didn't specify 2V or 4V heads.
If price is an issue check E-bay for Cleveland parts and all kinds of
intakes are available there. Even Edelbrock has a relatively new
Air-Gap available for the 4V Cleveland. Depends on the performance
level you are seeking.

Don't forget that the headers will have to be changed. Since the Cleveland is no higher than the 351W and alot of people are using them, I wouldn't think that height would be an issue. Well that is as long as you don't put a tunnel ram on it or something else crazy! LOL As far as intake and carb go; your over all combo should dictate that. Where do you want the power band? Anything up to 6000rpm should be OK with the stock 4V intake (you do have a 4V engine don't you?) over that I would suggest one of the single planes from Edlbrock(SP), Wiend(SP) etc. Here is a good link for alot of info on the 335 series (Cleveland) in general:

That depends upon the heads you are using. Do they have 2V, 4V or
aftermarket (AFD, CHI 3V, Ford Motorsport or Brodix high ports, etc.).

I would have said the same until I dyno'd a mild 408 cube 351C-4V
stroker recently. We tested a ported Ford aluminum dual plane (similar
to Boss 351 intake but with Holley carb pattern), Edelbrock Torker,
Blue Thunder and a Holley Strip Dominator. The Blue Thunder performed
worst and was down 40+ HP to the Strip Dominator. I can attached a
post with the details if anyone is interested. The ported Ford intake
did surprisigly well. Engine was just shy of 500 HP on the best pulls.

The Edelbrock Air Gap intake is for 2V ports though it will bolt up
to a 4V head.
