? on Tony Brand's Tall Cobra Valve Covers
Have any of you guys run TB's 'tall' open letter Cobra valve covers? I have pulled the oe 289 K code/T10 to store it from my '66 and am putting in a 347/T5 combo. I am running a complete roller set up in the 347 and bought the 'tall vc's to clear the roller rockers. When they arrived, they had a note inside telling me I may have to grind off parts of the rocker arm (!!) and or the inside of the valve cover! They also say maybe remove the oil baffle, which I would obviously not like to do. Are these tall enough for most applications? I am running Edelbrock alum. heads w/ Harlan Sharp rockers.
I hope I will be all right with the 'double thick' FelPro gasket #1645 but I would like some input b4 installing these and making them non-returnable. |
I put in a roller cam in my 289 and had to buy a valve cover spacer, got it from ERA. I am sure if you look around you should be able to find these valve cover spacers from other places

I have a mill so I can make the spacer, but I was hoping to avoid it because I dislike the look, hence the 'tall' valve covers. Be just my luck to have to mfg one anyway!
Oh well, at least the Buddy Bars will stay where they belong! |
Yep
I've got 'em on my 331 with Comp Cams ProMagnum roller rockers, and have no issues with clearance whatsoever. Didn't grind anything and there's no problems with the breather baffles. The heads are AFR 185's.
On the basis of their warnings, I bought a set of cover spacers too, which I've never used. Oh, well. -Roger |
valve covers
I bought Tony Branda valve covers for my 351w but then I purchased spacers from a local shop about 2 years ago when my engine was being built. I didn't want to grind them out for the roller rockers. I also have edelbrock aluminum heads. Rich

Summit has some spacers from Stef fab. "STF-63940" - yopu may be able to use this spacer (1.2") and a stock VC and get the height you want.

Cobra Valley has some taller ones. Pricey though.

I just built a 302 for a friend of mine and we used the Edelbrock Alum heads, Scorpion roller Rockers with 3/8" stud mounts and we bought the Tall Valve Covers from Ford and they work great. I assume these valve covers are about the same size as the TB but they are a lot cheaper.

I'm using Edelbrock heads with screw in rocker studs and Comp Cams Pro magnum stainless rockers. The stock Ford 5.0 EFI cast valve covers fit with just removing the oil baffles. So anything larger would be over kill.
