SB motor recommendations

Hey guys. I'm looking for some input from some track guys with some hours under their belts. Right now I have a 408 with AFR 205s, forged crank, rods and some other bits, mated to a Viper spec T-56, and a 3:64 BMW M3 LSD, running at about 440RWHP. She pulls great, gearing also seems spot on. However that being said, she's too nice to beat up at a track so she's going on the block, to be replaced by more of a track only car. Right now, I'm looking at either a dry sumped Roush 402R, or a Roush/Yates 385? I'd like to stay around the same HP numbers, seems about right for the car. Reliability is paramount, she will be carbed. Everything else is up for grabs. Thanks for any input, Richard Bailey |

so a Rough motor? they are nice but pricey... Have you looked at the Keith Craft Motors? He has some nice stuff and HP to $$ ratio is very good :cool: |

Thanks, I've been looking at the KC site as well. Not too many guys down this end with many track miles that I know of on a KC motor. That being said, every thing I hear is good.
I've got some time on my hands, and was trying to learn from others that have been down the same track. The next Cobra will be my third, and every time you do this, you learn soo much. Thanks for the feed back, Richard |

Talk to Jim Kuntz at Kuntz and Company Arkadelphia, Arkansas. A friend of mine that runs dirt tracks put me in touch with Jim late last year. I purchased a 460 from him with no regrets. I don't recall seeing Kuntz and Company ever mentioned on Cobra web sites. I received a first class job. It is certainly worth a phone call if you are shopping. Rick |

+1 on circle track motor builders. These guys know what works for reliability and long-haul, heavy-duty use. I suspect that Keith Craft and Co. do their share of roundy motors, located where they are. Either way, real quality machine work and attention to details in assembly just bode well to a long life. Eventually, all will break, but better to start out with a piece designed to go the distance. |
