crank trigger w/dry sump pump mounting confliction
seems my aviad pump mounts right where the msd crank trigger bracket sits on the right side of the engine.
anybody have any solutions or pictures of how to mount the pickup? maybe on the other side? |
I run a crank trigger but one can also run the Accel DFI Dual Sync Distributor which has the crank & cam signals built in.

thanks john, i guess that would be the #1 alternative. the tune man prefers the crank signal for better control of the injectors and spark at the higher rpm. i called john at aviad and he didn't have any ideas so hoping someone here has done it.
the pump bracket sits right where the bracket for the pickup should be in the same plane and i may end up welding the brackets together or moving the pickup to the other side. or use the dual sync distributor. how do you like your fuel injection, and what type is it? cheers |
The Accel Dual Sync is a very good piece. The rpms you are dealing with won’t be an issue. If you were turning above 7500 that would be different. Crank triggers are old-school racing technology. Good for boosted applications and higher rpm signal reliability.
For general street and occasional track use, the dual sync is more than adequate. Crank triggers do have issues from time to time. They can get loose, fall out of adjustment, cracked sending unit from heat, vibration, and road debris. Not very common but it does happen. I have the Gen7 too, and with crank trigger. It works very well, but I did have a injector-driver go out on the ECU. Had to send back to Accel for repair and re-flash. My tuner said out of 100 Gen7 installs, mine was the 2nd one he has seen loose a driver. But "exotic & uncommon problems" is my middle name. Biggest improvement has been mid-range and drivability tuning. Also has a much crisper and snappier fire / acceleration. It’s a monster. ;) |

You can put it on the flywheel. It is a much better location then the damper anyway. Just machine the bellhousing to accept a fabricated mount for the sensor. Chris, Oddly I have never felt any heat from the dry sump tank that I designed for the car. I guess the tunnel blocks the heat. :3DSMILE: |

did a recon night patrol over to ffr forum and found a guy that has done the same thing, so hopefully i'll find out his situation.
