Flywheel rubbing against starter nose?
2 Attachment(s)
The starter is an OEM type (302, 1977 - 1982) for a manual transmission. I'm using a Lakewood bellhousing (#15202) and McLeod 157 tooth flywheel (#463100-28). I circled the starter mounting holes I used. Any ideas? Thanks.

On both my engines (302 block for Kirkham and 351 block for ERA) I had to remove the half moon shaped piece clearly shown in your second photo. This allows the use of the next outward set of holes moving the starter away from the flywheel. Make sure the starter pinion clears the flywheel also (you may have to shim it). Good luck and be careful I chewed up the ring gear in the ERA and had the pleasure of replacing it with the engine in the car (no lift).

They sell starter shims for about $3 at auto zone and other parts houses on the help isle. I had to use one on my first engine which was a small block,
