Different Cam
My Cobra for the most part runs pretty good but I think the cam is a bit on the mellow side and would like to change it out. I need something that works well with the webers. Any suggestions from people that know more than I?

Are you running solid or hydraulic, Flat tappet or Roller?

The current engine is a 69 351W with Hydraulic Flat lifters, stock cam, Y303 heads and webers. I want to give it more power and a bit more personality at Idle..

What is your current cam spec >? how much lift can your springs and valves support >?
what rocker ratio are you using currently >? |
call Keith Craft and tell them what you want to do with your motor/car, race, street, little of both etc.
Give them the specs of your motor, weight of car, trannie, rear gear ratio, tire size etc. See what they recommend. I did this last summer and they had Comp to grind the cam and ship it to me in 6 days. Good price, great service. Keith knows Cobra and motor. Dwight |
OFM: Be aware that you can have what would be termed a "fairly radical" cam with a rough ide etc and when you put the Webers on it will smooth out the idle considerably. At the same time, adding Webers will increase the torque by about 15% over a 4BBL with the same cam.

I currently have the stock cam that came in the 69 motor.. I know.. lame.. I was making choices to keep the budget down with intent on circling back later.. :>)
It has 1.6:1 rockers and the M-6090-X302 springs and valves.. I need to find the specs for those.... Part of me thinks I should just build a second motor from the ground up... but this 69 motor is pretty tough... |
Keith fixed me up with a great cam for my 408W. Hyd roller, I dont have the spec's avaliable but I recall a .605 intake and .608 exht. I am running webers, nice lumpy idle around 900-1000 RPM. Most likely have some tuning to do as I am not yet road worthy.. Give him a call, he will fix you up. Personally I wouldnt do business with anyone else.

Keith Craft & Barry R are two great builders that are on these boards that can help you. Another builder is Pops Performance. I use Pops for all my builds because we have a long standing business relationship. They build motors for Stephen Becker at Planet Cobra. (The Atlanta Shelby Dealer). Some of their builds are currently being displayed this week at Barrett Jackson in the Cobras. I'm sure Pops can also help you if you give him a call.

Craig builds some nice engines (and cars). I have known Craig for a while. He takes care of a friend of mine's Superformance and his 65 GT350R (clone). Both are raced and he built the engines and works on both (they belong to the guy that I got my CR from). I have seen some very nice cars in his shop. Terry |

So I hear back from Keith Craft on this.. they recommended I convert to a roller cam. Also there was a suggested cam but the dollar amounts in the email don't add up. I thought it would have cost a lot more especially since it is a conversion.

Ask them for cam brand and part numbers, seems way too cheap for roller lifters, if the pricing is for roller lifters get there as fast as you can. ;)

Cam Swap
I forgot to tell you that you would need the Comp Cams valley trey and lifter guides. They sell it in a Comp Cams retro-fit kit for 50.00. If you are doing the lifters without the retro fit kit which uses tie bars and Comp sells these for about 450.00. Just let me know if we can help. Thanks, Keith
