351W MSD box
hi all
i got a question regarding my ford motorsport crate engine, its the 475hp one with the z heads. now this is my question , i have a msd box on it and the pill in it is a 6000 rpm, is this engine able to rev higher then that with out issue, or is the 6000rpm where the engine maxes out. anyone with this engine running a higher pill in there msd box? also the engine has no mods to it , its the same way it came from ford |
Didn't you get papers with the engine giving the RPM range for horsepower and Torque? I don't know if Ford sends them out, but the few engines that I have had built by other builders came with all the paper work including specs for the cam, pistons, and everything else.

It would be a good idea to make sure you have enough fuel feeding at high revs. -- you probably want to break in the engine (below 5K for first 500Miles ) then get yourself to a dyno tune shop that can sense A/F ratio during the rev range -
Additionally a dyno run (runs) can tell you if your ignition system is up to snuff and if you are detonating ,pinging , or leaning out. The rotating assembly (engine ) can take a lot of abuse and will work hard, but it needs clean oil, good fuel and proper scaled timing and advance to work properly. if the whole thing is OK you should be able to go to 6200-6500 but that is a lot of revs for a 347. If it were me I would put a 6250 chip in it and make sure you have plenty of fuel at 6200 so you dont lean out up there. ---Steve |
The engine you have is the stroker 392W crate, correct? If so, put the 6000 rpm pill in it. You'll be happy and your engine will last a loooooonnnnng time. IMHO, I think MSD quality and service is in the crapper and I won't put anything with their name on it in my car.
