? Is ther a slightly longer starter nose

Hey im using a block plate on our TKO600/408 engine package and we run an old style large starter but I hardly get any engagemnt of the starter to the ring gear because of the block plate do they make a different nose for this starter to help get Full contact with the ring gear.Im afraid I already have a bad spot in the fly wheel from this. i had to slightly rotate engine out of that spot to get it to start the other day:CRY:.thanks in advance for the Help!!WB3

There might be a difference between a starter for an automatic and a manual. Jim

there definetly is a difference in "nose" length on a starter for a manual and an automatic.......that's why I now have a spare starter I can't use........

Bill, I ran into a similar problem on my FE with the Tilton Super Starter. Tooth engagement was just short of the spec. As recommended by Tilton, I took the faceplate of the starter off and had it machined .060" thinner. Problem solved!

Any thoughts on a mini starter Bill?

WildBill3 Bill any thoughts on a mini starter? Call Summit of Jegs for INFO ONLY. I would try and e-mail Keith Craft or Brent B. to check with. Either one should have the correct answer. Years ago They had short nose, long nose, manual, auto trans, & heavy duty starters all would work on the same motor and flywheel. If worst comes to worst, machine out the backing plate where the starter is mounted. Or machine the mounting housing on the starter. This will void the warranty. Rick L.
