Are these gaskets really reusable??
Milodon claims it is reusable... Is it really?? Anyone ever used one before?

i've used something similiar on valve covers if it is the stuff i'm thinking about and didn't like it. the rubber gets squishy and doesn't hold. i prefer the "right stuff".

I have one of these and I am going to drop my oil pan tommorow due to a leak.. Debating on what to do with the gasket. Reuse it or replace it with something else. Not sure if the leak is from the pan or front seal. But I might try right stuff instead of the gasket if that is what others use.

I have the milodon "reusable" gasket but I am opting to not reuse it.. what would you use with the milodon pan?
1. Cork 2. Rubber 3. RTV/Right Stuff 4. Other The reason I ask is I aways seem to get a little bit of small seep from the oil pan. Especially after a bit of rough driving. |
no brainer here, i would do the right stuff. just make sure the bead is big enough and surface prepped.
i'll bet a $5 you use the gasket and it leaks within the year, it would for me anyway. |

nope, put it on the block, it'll stick. i would set the pan on the block and outline with a marker where the pan sits so you put the sealer in the right places, also look at the ends to see how much gap to fill. hump it up over the crank when you apply the bead and make sure to apply plenty. i would let it sit overnight personally.
reason i had to take my pan off is i didn't follow the pan rails well enough around the corners.:CRY: |
I use a cork gasket with grey rtv and never ever had a leak. I the rtv on either side of the gasket. to get it off can be a bear, you have to pound a putty knife between the pan and block and eventually you will get it off

i'm writing as if the motor is upside down, if in the car you'll have to put the stuff on the pan. don't fight gravity, it's a losing proposition.:D
