Help with 418 stroker engine/trans for UK Cobra
Hi
I am currently rebuilding my Magnum Cobra here in the UK and am looking for some advice. I have started an engine assembly based upon a 351W with a Coast High Performance 418 stroker kit and Probe 22cc dished pistons. I have looked at AFR heads and qustion whether for a mixed road/track car that the 225 heads would be too much and I would be better going with the 205? What would be the best cam, inlet manifold and carb for the setup usng a Tremec TK600 box and Jaguar/Quaife limited slip differential with a 3.33:1 or similar ratio? Would also appreciate advice on using a throw out hydraulic clutch release mechanism as opposed to a standard slave cylinder with pushrod & lever. Advice/experience/guidance much appreciated. BTW this engine is replacing an Edelbrock 343 stroked 302 as I am looking for more power - over 500 horses. |
I'll only address the cylinder head question and leave the rest for someone smarter than I am.
The 205 and the 225 flow basically the same up to .600 lift http://www.airflowresearch.com/store...dff4e8910302d4 http://www.airflowresearch.com/store...dff4e8910302d4 The 225 is certainly not too much head for the 418...but the choice is dependent on the camshaft used...whether the headers are an issue, and whether you want room to expand later. Oh...and thank you for going with CHP. |
This is the cam I would use for your specs. This is a retrofit cam for engines that did not come with roller lifters, but are being retrofitted with link type or the spider and dogbone roller lifters.
http://www.compperformancegroupstore..._Code=HRCAMSXE With this cam I would use the Edelbrock Vic. Jr. heads, which come with springs good for .650 lift, guideplates, and studs for rockers. These heads flow as well as just about any other head you'll find for a bit less money than the AFR. Also, I've always heard the AFR heads have crappy springs which would need to be changed to better, higher lift springs, which also push the price up. A Vic. JR. intake or Edelbrock Airgap and some good flowing headers and sidepipes and you should reach your 500 hp goal. Bob |
