Oil leak problem on new engine

I started my new 347 today and encountered a mysterious oil leak that was driving me crazy. It appeared to be coming from the oil cooler adaptor at the filter. After remaking the AN10 lines twice and two "O" rings and 3 filters I was really stumped. As I lay on the concrete gazing at the problem area I noticed that the fuel pump was hard against the corner of the front timing cover. To make a long story short, the square corner of the Ford "universal" timing cover interfers with the big Edelbrock mechanical fuel pump I use. This square corner will not allow the pump to seat flat against the mounting surface leaving a 1/4" gap, and out comes the oil.
I ended up cutting the corner of the housing off without having to take things apart.
There are pictures in my gallery that show this problem. Maybe this will save the next guy a little frustration.

After my son lost a new 350 chevy to a hole in the fuel pump diaphram filling the crankcase with gasoline, I decided I like electric fuel pumps better.

You needed one of those new wedge shaped gaskets, intended specifically for this type of situation. They can be used on Transmission side cases, fuel pumps, and ill fitting distributors., and leaking FE valve covers:LOL: or you can alternately fill the offending gap with silicone.
