Roller Lifter Question
Does anyone know how much lifter "lift" a stock Ford roller lifter will tolerate before it starts to lift the dogbone? This would be in a mid 60's retrofit block.
I have a 1967 "Mexico" block with a retrofit Compcam with .365" lifter "lift" and there is a strange tapping noise. Could it be the dogbones being lifted up and down by the spider? Any experiece here? Pat |

If the cam is a retrofit roller, you would need almost .600" of valve lift. If it's a non-retrofit cam, it will happen a lot sooner.
But, even if it does lift the dog bones a little, that's not a big issue. You might hear the noise, but I kinda doubt it. If you have dog bones, you MUST use a spider to keep them in place. |

Well I guess its time to take it back apart and see what's what. I will probably buy a set of Compcam lifters after reading about lifter pump up in their ads.

if the roller cam is not a retrofit roller , but a roller made for a stock 5.0, you may be having oiling issues with the shorter lifterbores on the older blocks.
