Buzzer when accelerating and bouncing tach?
 

Well I've had Superformance #126 for about a week now and still can't wipe the grin off my face...

On acceleration I get what sounds like a buzzer going off around the tach...not sure what it is. Also when the turn signal is on the tach bouncing with the blinking of the indicator. Any ideas on either issue?

I'm sure I'll be asking a ton of simple questions...such as is there a list of all parts in the car so I can find replacements? I've been around british cars for quite a few years, but looking forward to learning more about these cars!

#126 - that's a very early car -isn't it?

Blas could chime in, but I think that buzzer is an electrical warning. Could be wrong.

May sound dumb, a weak battery could do this. Check the connections first and verify you've got a good engine / frame bond for your grounds. Your ignition switch could also be the culprit if everything else looks good.

I think there is a warning buzzer if you need to add a little brake fluid.

I agree, the buzzer is most likely the low brake fluid warning sound, that is the only buzzer standard on the car. Acceleration can change the level of the fluid in the resevoir causing the warning buzzer to sound. Usually means the fluid is low Careful which brake fluid you add.
The DOT 2 spec is for drum brakes and is obsolete. Silicone brake fluid (DOT 5) should be avoided because it is not compatible with regular brake fluid. That leaves DOT 3 and DOT 4 fluids. These fluids are compatible with each other and may be interchanged or mixed with no ill effect

As to the eratic tach operation, I also agree with the ground suggestion, check the variois grounding locations unser the dash. There is a large cluster of brown ground wires at the center of the dash near the accessory plug (if you have one fitted - they were options back then) look near the top of the 2 support bars up to the dash. Send me an email (see below) and I'll send you a photo of the grounds in that area...Always glad to help.
FYI: (BROWN wires are always grounds on SPF's, even BROWN with color stripes)(RED and GREEN wires are always power)

Yes #126 is an early version of the Superformance product, probably built about 1996 or 1997. Very similar to the latests cars, but different brakes and wheels, dropped floor configuration, cowl height, early wiring harness etc. I have a link to a webpage with the changes listed in the build configuration somewhere...I'll try and locate it.

Definitely strange...brake fluid level on the main MC and the remote reservoir are both at max level. The tach does not jump after the car has been running for a while...so I am wondering about a weak battery as well (I don't know how old it is).

Yes 126 is very early...I believe built in 96.

Blas...you mentioned a dropped floor configuration...I didn't realize that on the early SPF cars. I'm 6'5" and fit fine in the car...so perhaps that's giving me a bit more room?

The early cars did not have the dropped floor standard...
If the fluid level is ok, the buzzer could also be related to the loose ground under the dash...
Do you have a volt meter? You can do a few quick checks to narrow down the battery question. The battery may also have a date stamp on it...

It means the FE is about ready to start leaking oil:LOL:

Or his blinker fluid is low :LOL:
