Can a passenger roll-bar be added?

Is it possible to add a passenger roll-bar to and existing (i.e. used) SPF Cobra? Does SPF sell the parts? How hard is it to install (if possible)?

It can definitely be done, but it may cost a few bucks.

Here's a thread with some details. Bob indicated that it cost $1,300 for the roll bar and installation.

As I remember, the mounting bracket(s) required for a passenger side bar (hoop) are not installed at the factory on all chassis. On newer chassis I believe the brackets were standard on the frame, but where the break on chassis # is I don't know. Any bar that you need to add new brackets for will not be as strong as the one with factory installed brackets due to the welding procedure. There is a tech paper on how to add a second bar but no mention of chassis #'s. But this project is not for the faint of heart. There is always the full width bar option too. Olthoff sells them. And a taller drivers side bar also available from Olthoff. I have his taller bar on mine.

I'm in Southern Cal. I'm seriously considering getting an SPF Cobra in thenext few/several months and will be stronglyconsidering "used". But I do want the passenger roll-bar. Just need to know my options and costs, etc.

thx

Matt

Hillbank Superformance in Irving can all one for you. Most likely they will have to order the bar (takes a few weeks to get from Africa). One day to install. Barry Bloch can give you the full details there. Phone him at 949-900-1954:)

Dual Roll Bars Are Cooler, and more Versatile, than Anything Else in the World

Matt, you can do almost anything with these cars. Pencil-in two grand or less for a passenger side roll bar. You know, I've noticed in the last two years a distinct increase in the preference for dual roll bars in these cars. And what's nice, you can always just unbolt one, or both, and pull them out and fit the holes with a rubber grommet plug -- then put them back in, pull them back out, all to suit your mood. You could even have custom hole-plugs fabbed that will match the body and stripe colors. Take it from me, dual roll bars are where it's at.;)

The bars can be installed by a capable shop familiar with SPFs -- we are doing a passenger side roll bar now on a Factory Five. --

How much it is depends on many factors. Time, detail, skill, difficulty, availability of parts, vs making them, -- etc.

Steve
