If you do use chains as a back-up, where is the best location to bolt them?

Motor Mounts

Save yourself a $1,000,000.00 And pin your stock motor mounts. You get the bennefit of vibration damping plus a mount that won't break and will still look good. (old drag racing trick) Chain?

Do you have the details of pining motor mounts? Sounds similar to chaining, but without a chain?

Some of the better rubber mounts have a bolt captured within the vulcanized rubber to prevent the mount from pulling apart yet still provide the vibration isolation that from the the rubber. Your electronics will thank you for using rubber mounts.

Pin Motor Mounts

This is very simple-----Provided your using BBF 385 series. This will also work on other mounts. On ford 429 460 Drill 2 holes through each mount either 5/16 or 3/8ths depending on bolt size you use. (HP should dictate that) Use grade 8 bolts and self locker nuts. Make sure everything is flush. This will limit torque over( Saving your headers and bracets) to zero but will give you the vibration dampening needed. It is hardly noticeable.
If you need pictures I can send some.
Alot of your circle track guys will use chain, that is because at any time they are subjected to about 39 end over ends.
I use chain for towing or lifting.

I've seen where the stock rubber mounts allow the engine to move around enough for the headers to hit the body and the poly mounts solves this. I'm planning on a 351W based engine (getting close to ordering car and, if new, the engine, etc.). Anyone tried these? How is the vibration insulation to the frame? I had a 240Z once that I changed the stock rubber sway-bar, etc. bushings to poly and they really transmitted road shock to the car.

I have a SPF with a 460. I also got body damage from the side pipes hitting. The rubber mounts couldnt handle the tourque. I think some guys shim one side up to compensate for the movement. I went with the poly mounts as well. It is the way to go. Not much additional vibration to the cockpit at all.

Not suggesting they didn't work, it's just the natural evolution of racing. Drum brakes served their purpose, but not there are discs, and who knows what will come next.

As far as mounts, I'd say with your motor, poly would be a wise choice, and should give you years of wear. In my case, I can rip a set of stock mounts in a day, and poly last about 2 years max.

Jack- very nice. It's the same type mounting as our sprint car. If the engine is balanced well, you won't get much vibration guys.

I bought mine from him, and he even did the install. Of course he live not to far from me. I haven't had issues since. I believe the poly trans mount can be perchased from Performance Unlimited for the Tremec TKO's. When I yank out my trans and rear for overhaul/upgrade, I will upgrade to the poly trans mount.

R

Ron- $370 for the FE. Wow. Looks great thouigh.
