I am also glad it is fixed. But now we we never know if it was the thermostat or the lack of a by-pass hose. Take it apart again and do one repair at a time.......:LOL::LOL:

Pulled the motor mounts last night. Put the car on jack stands and used a jack under the pan to raise the engine an inch or so.
As for the oil leak…the AN fittings were tight, but the oil filter adapter plate was loose. Snugged it into the block. I cleaned the oil residue from the frame and components while my 17-year old son modified and installed the Olthoff mounts. Lowered the engine back down and discovered that we’ll need to do some shimming to get everything lined up. By then, my kitchen pass had expired. BTW – just for grins, I threw the old thermostat in a pan of water and it slowly began opening at 180ish. Was fully open around 10-15 seconds later. Seemed very sluggish, but I didn’t have time to experiment with it. And yes - I stared at the temp gauge the entire test drive. It will take a while. Bob |

More excitement.
Finished shimming the Olthoff motor mounts and fired it up in my garage. Engine came to life and immediately settled in at an audacious 4000 rpm:eek:. Pretty much cleaned out any cobwebs in my garage. A quick peek under the hood revealed the throttle linkage had to be readjusted based on the engine sitting in a slightly different position. Should I loosen and then retighten the tranny mount to allow it to adjust also? Test drive - The Olthoff mounts increased NVH slightly. Not bad - maybe a slight tingling in the steering wheel. Car felt tighter & quieter. A lot of the low rpm “chain-lash” feeling was gone (however-could be due to the engine still idling slightly higher than normal-will fix tomorrow). Biggest difference was at mid rpm. The engine felt very smooth shifting at 4k. Ran up to 5k and it felt great. Good stuff…I’m happy and recommend the mounts. Will see tomorrow morning if the oil leak is gone. Bob |
