Windshield-question.
Hello.
A question about the bolts that hold the windshield ass. in place on the car; Recently I bought a spare windshield-and-frame (the "old" type), but today when I checked the measurement of where the four screws in the sideposts are, or should be, I discovered that the threaded holes in that spare windshieldframe are about 1 cm lower than the holes in the posts. Is this a common thing with Superformance windshields, or are there more than one (old style) type available?

I replaced mine, and was told there are two types. Even with the right one it had to be hand fitted to the car. I had Hillbank do mine because I did not want to chance breaking the new one.

John...This happened to me several years ago.....As I was warranted a new windshield glass/frame (while Jimmy Price still owned SPF) that included side supports with the assembly.
I removed the old frame and tried to replace it with the new frame (using my original side supports) but the holes in my old side supports did not line up with the holes in the new frame.
So I also had to use the new side supports that came with the new frame. It was that or remove the glass from the new frame and re-install into the old frame....needless to say I just swapped out the side supports.
I have to believe the SPF windshield/frame and side supports are hand made and put together as one assembly. |

Aha, changing the side supports, I didn't think of that, I was thinking about drilling and threading new holes in the frame, but that seems a hell of a job to me. By te way, those side supports (as a spare part), are these pre-drilled or blank?

When I received the new windshield in the frame, the side supports were included with the frame and pre drilled for that particular frame....it sounds like you bought a glass in the frame and the side supports were not included.???
Who did you buy the frame from... |

Mine came with new side supports, and like was said above the holes did not line up. I was told that each windshield is hand fitted to each car. I think I paid about $1100.00 for the new assembly, and when I could not get it to fit I had hillbank do it. They did it for free, but I would have paid instead of taking a chance of breaking it.

Well, a SF-owner in my country bought a new windshield some ten years ago when his glass broke, but he received the wrong style (he needed the new type, without a frame), so this particular windshield was new in his garage all this time. When I bought it, I checked the height and width several times, but only when I wanted to store it away at home (don't need it right now) I thought of checking the holes against the side supports on my car. I never expected that they could be in different places, to be honest, I expected this to be the case with kitcar-Cobra's, and I decided to buy a Superformance to avoid exactly this kind of thing. So what can I say?

John....Thats a good question to Superformance....why are they not all the same....
I take it you have an early windshield car, as they started around car# 1250 or there about) with the smaller non bonded glass. |

I'll get you some info on windshields...not interchangable !!!!

There basically 3 different versions. Had to do with a body change at the cowl to allow modular engines. Some frames have fixed glass and some have replaceable glass...
