SPF Mileage

I have been monitoring this site and saving money for years planning to buy a Superformance Mark III. It is now the right time for me and I came across one on Ebay in Texas located close to me. One problem. It has more trip miles(209.X) than it has total miles(185). Is this possible, or a sign of some sort of foul play with the total mileage and then forgetting to reset the trip mileage? Is there some other possible answer?

Description says 425 miles, though odometer clearly shows 185. Did you ask the seller?

If you go to view the car ask the owner to reset the trip odometer. Assuming the speedo is mechanical, they can have reset issues just like my old mechanical speedo did in my SPF. If you keep trying to reset the trip odometer the wrong way it can get all honked up and add miles instead of a clean reset. It's the only explanation I have.

He did repeat to me that it now has a little over 400 miles on it when I asked, but I didn't pay close attention to that photo till after I spoke to him. And thanks, Bill, that might explain my concerns.

I look more at what the car looks like and how it may have been driven and maintained than what the odometer says. Either way on that one the mileage
is almost nil so I'd be more concerned about how good the car looked all over
and what history you could get on it - like you are doing. Don't get hung up on the odometer.

It is possible to "add" miles on the trip odo by pushing the reset button. You can push the button partway and have the drums move in a rather random fashion. I can add mile to the trip odo of a rolling chassis with no powertrian or speedo cable!

As said, to me an odometer is only a suggestion. Condition and inspection reveal the truth about a car.
