Half shaft boots
Does anyone happen to know the part numbers for the rubber boots that cover the half shafts, two at the wheels and two at the diff? apparently they are leaking, what a mess

Before replacing anything...
Are the boots split or just leaking at the clamps? I have seen cheezy zip ties used as clamps on a few cars. I suggest you locate the source of the grease leak(s) first. If you have a small tear in the boot, it can be patched with a tire patch made for a small bicycle tire. If it is the clamps that are leaking, post back and I'll dig up the NAPA clamp and installation tool part numbers. Repairs can be done while shaft is on the car. Early cars (like yours) had a problem with the end boots hitting the chassis when bottoming-out the suspension. If yours are original boots, you did REAL well. If you lost a lot of grease you will need to replace it and burp the boot of excess air after adding grease. My contact info is below. |
blas,
One is ripped the other is loose, im getting a new gear set so I figured I might as well have them replaced while it is apart. I got a set orderd from Olthoff. he gave me some tips for installing them. One thing he did say was to burp them and use the wire wraps on the small end but not the large end. |
Then you can supply us with the boot part numbers when they arrive..

Looking thru my notes last night I came across this...
Outboard Boot: RPM #86-2119 Inboard Boot: RPM #86-2287 Cross-referencing the above numbers I find: Neapco Inboard: #85-1103 Outboard: #85-1379 http://www.neapco.com/pdf/Neapco-200...it-Catalog.pdf Unverified - Use at you own risk... |
When mine arrive I will see if i can get the part numbers on them and verify.

Dont forget there are at least 3 Diffs for the SPF MK III , the 8.8 Diff ( FORD ) , Dana / (HOLDEN GTO) and the new ZF ( GM ZETA /Camaro ) .
The main thing that we have seen in the leaks is the grease separating - we take them apart and re-grease with synthetic WB grease ( RED ) . Steve |
