What Happened?

I have 5k miles on my 2608 and the right side pipe is corroding away. When I bought it in Florida, I could see some “salt air” corrosion, but it is really getting worse in the section just aft of where the pipes converge into one pipe. I like to use soap and water to clean the Cobra, but I dry it off completely. I’m not ready to plunk down the $2,500 for a new set just yet. I suppose I could buff them up. Any suggestions on how to stop the corrosion?

Have them hot coated

WardL Swain or Hot coating is about the only way to slow down this problem. The pipes would need to be stripped to metal, repair any holes, recoat. You should be good for a couple of years. Stainless steel would be next. Depending on the color of the pipes, Guys who run white pipes just use spary bombs of metal paint and keep touching up the pipes.
There is a company that sales an electro kit to wire to the car frame and slow rusting down. I have not heard any info on this. Try sreaching the old threads on this. Maybe someone can help. We have the same problem at the Jersey shore with frame and pipe rot. They sure don't build them with the better steel they used to use.:( Rick L.

I have my original SPF pipes up in the attic if you want them. There are some cracks at the flange that need to be repaired, but the price is right. FREE.

Let me know.

If they are the silver ceramic coated pipes you can clean the rust off with #0000 fine steel wool and aluminum polish. Apply a liberal amout of polish and work it in with the steel wool. It will make them shine like new.

John, we have never met, but I always knew I liked you! Thanks, I'll take you up on the deal for your old pipes! We can switch to email or phone. I'm at WFridrich@comcast.net and (360) 739-6803. I have the common silver ceramic coated pipes. Thanks!
