Smiths Volt gauge
Fair warning, be certian to check a new Smiths volt gauge b-4 you put it on.
I installed it today only to find out the pos didn't even budge. Foiled by Murphy again! Yes I double checked it by hooking it up direct to the battery with #1 post going to ground and #2 to the + of battery. I called Nisonger this morning and they will repair or replace the gauge but they won't spring for the return shipping. Pi$$ poor customer service I think! Glenn |
Sorry to hear about that. Would you mind posting a procedure as to how you re-wire the SPF for this conversion? I realize that the current ammeter set-up is worthless, but also that all the juice in the electrical system flows through this one gauge/circuit.

Sure Steve, First you need to kill the 12 vdc from the battery or switch if so equipped.
I removed my amp meter by simply reaching under the dash and removed the two plastic retaining nuts and the mounting bracket. The two female connectors and gauge light can eaisly be pulled off allowing the gauge to be pulled out from the front, Once this is done you cut the two connectors off the amp wires and strip them back 7/16". Use a sta-con to double crimp the two wires together and then solder the wires so it flows into the crimped sta-con. I then double heat shrinked the connection and followed that with electrical tape. As far as installing the volt meter, just run the positive wire with a 3 amp fuse in series to the "on side" of the ignition switch and the other side to a good ground . The terminals are polarity sensitive so be sure to connect according to gauge instructions. Hope this helps, Glenn |
Thank you, Glenn!
