Side mirror location?
Anyone know what the "correct" location is for the Std SPF side view mirror on an SPF 427 cobra? Any info on how to install it? Any recommended upgrades (higher quality version) for the same mirror?
thx

I adjusted the standard SPF driver side mirror to point out a little more than standard installation. I was thinking about it and thought that possibly the reason the mirror is almost useless in the normal install is because it was designed for racing. I assumed when racing, you only care if you are going to run into another car. On the freeway or more normal street drivning, different courteousness hopefully comes into play.

Didn't your car come with standard rearview mirror attached to the fender? It's pretty useless anyway. I put a convex mirror in the housing and it helps a bit. A clip on convex rearview mirror gives you pretty good visibility over the stock rearview.

Ditto on puting a convex mirror in the housing of the existing mirror... although nothing beats looking over your shoulder.

My car came with the rear-view and driver's side-view mirrors in boxes. I guess some people don't install the side-view and the rear-view has 2 possible locations (dash and top of windshield) for mounting. So, I assume they leave all that up to the owner.

Got it. Since the fender mirrors are pretty useless, you may want to look at options that mount to the window vs. drilling holes the body.

I think by law in California you have to have two mirrors? the SPF mirror is totally useless on my car but it may be broken, it doesn't adjust, I tried taking it apart , but no go, it's still on my to-do list. If I were in your shoes I would find one that fit the windshield.

Bingo. The side mirror is flimsy and useless. Easily knocked off if a careless individual brushes against it. If I could do it over, I would install a Ray Dot mirror on the side of my windshield frame. Much more solid and actually usefull.

If the mirror you have is a Raydot and want to mount it on the windshield there was a mounting kit available from Cobra Restorers in CA. The windshield placement along with a convex mirror substituted for the flat one, works pretty well IMHO. I purchased the mirror from Kmart and it fit perfectly in place of the existing one. I also bought a threaded aluminum hand star-wheel from Grainger for easy adjustment on the bracket. 1/4 20 I believe.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments. You've given me some things to think about.

Mirrors
Try Terry Riebel @ Dreamcar Co. 502 802 1159.
He machines these mirrors himself, I have a set and they work, no drilling, fasten to the wind wing mounting hinge.

OH! If it were mine i would not use the fender mounted one, almost useless. Just an opinion, but wish mine was not mounted.

Dreamcar mirrors are awesome and in my opinion much cleaner looking than the standard side mirror.
