Improved rear lighting for SPF

Installed a turn signal to brake light conversion module made by Signal Dynamics (Tri Star XP). It splices into the rear wiring harness in the trunk.

I now have the following rear light functions :
Top light: brake, turn, running
Bottom light: brake, running

This solves the useless bottom light issue. I also upgraded to a brighter incandescent bulb. Both turn and stop lights are clearly visible in full sun.

This has been an ongoing concern.

Can you help us with the partnumber of this kit and the bulbs you are using?
These units are made for bikes: so you had to use two units? (or is there a clever way to use it for two rear lights?)

Bulbs
3497
3496
These are standard at most parts stores. They are a higher output version of the standard bulbs.

Signal Dynamics
Tri Star XP 01016 (only need one)
A dual load equalizer was supplied with it but my car didn't require it.

The higher output bulbs helped a little bit. Having brake and turn functions on the top lens, with the Tri Star XP, is what really improved visibility. The bottom lens is completely useless.

Hi.

I am a French very happy new owner of a magnificent SPF.
Reading the posts on the subject of upgrading the lights of the Cobra, I ordered 1157 led bulbs to superbrightleds. In my minds, it is a question of safety.
I began with the front lights.
It happens a PROBLEM that I can not understand.
When I introduce the leds bulbs, ONLY ONE SIDE (The left), works perfectly (running and turning).
On the right side : Nothing whith the led. I controled that the two leds are good.
If I introduce on the right side, not working with the led, the original incandescent bulb, it works, but seames to be poor.
I wait to understand what is happenig, before installing the leds on the back of the car.

Have somebody an idea of what is happening ?

Thank you, and best regards from France.

Saint Ho.

LEDs do not offer enough resistance for the flasher to work. You will need to either add resistance or replace the flasher.

The TRi Star XP includes a separate dual load equalizer, if LEDs are installed. I tried LEDs but didn't see much improvement over the 3496 and 3497 bulbs.
