Very erratic amp gauge, no start any ideas
Cobra been running perfect. Start it up and back out of garage and notice amp gauge swinging (Lucas) Go for ride radio cutting on and off, wired directly to battery, turn around go home and shut engine off, flip lights on no dimming or light intensity variation, try to start engine and everything completely DEAD. Lights dont even come on. Never had a batter just go completely dead before. Any ideas? Thanks

Blas is my hero, he nailed it. As stated above symptoms were sporadic. I had eratic amp gauge reading, then perfect. Could get car working jumping with cables, but not battery installed. Bottom line was the battery ground just behind battery box lug was 95 percent severed. You have to pull carpet up and remove Allen head screw to inspect since it breaks around Allen head. As Blas indicated no room for lug against fiberglass, enlarge hole. I would have broken down for sure, if I would have kept driving. Wow I am sooooo happy!, I owe you Blas.

If you have a SPF you will have this problem! This explains why my radio has been loosing it preprogrammed stations for the last year.

Yup, had the exact same problem.

What chassis numbers are affected <>> ? I will go look at mine.

I've had this problem twice with two different root causes. One time, the negative terminal broke off of the battery. The second time, my internal regulator in my alternator when on the fritz.

I had the same problem also... left me stranded miles from home. Luckily the local AAA road service dude is a friend and he picked me up with his flat bed miles away from his assigned area. Ya gotta love it! An easy fix once you figure it out.

I imagine all all affected. As Blas explained, the cable terminal is under stress then as the body flexes failure will occur. Solution is simple, enlarge terminal hole to slot so the terminal is not under bending stresses. Remember same current that goes through positive goes through negative, I guess worse case scenario is you catch carpet on fire from hot terminal.
