Hand brake adjustment on 3000 series SPF

I have SPF 3033. It has Wildwood brakes with a ratchet hand lever (parking brake) that is to be set while pushing on the brake pedal. I do that (and ratchet the handle up 3-5 clicks as recommended) but the hand brakes don't engage (the car rolls even on a small incline). If I pull up harder on the hand brake the tension is so high I have trouble disengaging the brake later. Do I need to adjust something or what???

thx all

Matt

That sounds about right. When pulled tight, the lever should be pointing almost straight up. I adjusted mine at the handle so that it took less pull to set the brake, but you will need to remove your passenger seat (easily done by removing the four hold down bolts from underneath the car) peel away the carpet and tighten the holding nut on the adjustment rod. There may be a way to adjust it at the wheels, but I had to take the seat out anyways to remove the trans, so I did it that way

I never put a lot of faith in the holding power of the parking brake on any type of an incline, but it should hold on a flat surface. I put the car in gear also when parked.

this can be adjusted - get the car up on a rack and take a peek, be careful not to bind the pads by over adjusting. however, try this trick press the brakes down hard - then- set the brake, it may stick better.
