MSD box placement
On superformance were should the MSD box be place?

Mine is in the passenger side footwell, mounted to the top of the footwell.

Same....on top of passenger footwell box.

Mine was on the driver's side footbox very close to the fender. I had to remove the air vent to get to one of the screws.
I replaced mine twice (one just before the shipper picked it up for the new owner) - I would have relocated it to the inside had I kept the car. |
Use the rubber isolation/vibration standoffs to keep it cool.

I am more of a fan of them in a cooler place, under that same area inside the footbox. -- they are a full 100F cooler there.

Inside the car
Kenny my MSD 6AL is mounted inside the car under the glove box unside down with the chip hole facing out to swap easy if needed. Rubber mounted. 15 years, car has been in rain and major storms. No problem. Also have my ECU mounted in same place. I do have the foot air duct blow air to keep these units cooler than under the hood. 2 small tips, seal all seams with small bead of sealer,(clear) and electric dye grease on all connectors that might get wet or be near water. D-CEL, why three boxes? Mine is the same position at the top of passenger footbox. Funny thing is that is right where I get the first water leak too. I think I better check the holes made to hold it in place!

Mine is in the same place as D-Cell's. Located the MAP sensor there, too.

It’s only two! LOL, the red box on the right is an older rev limiter module. I run a fully redundant Ex-Winston-Cup system. Two HVC-6 boxes, two coils, rev-limiter, noise filter. It has a switch on the dash so I can change a completely different system. So If I’m out on the road and loose a box, just flip the switch and keep driving! |

I must agree with Lovehmr,
When I bought my car in early 2005 it had the SVO –Dura spark box in it and it was nothing but trouble, When I decided to end that misery and go MSD, I did the redundant thing because of all the bad press MSD was getting. It has been cool and makes diagnosis a snap, butI haven’t needed it as neither box has given me any trouble since installed. IMO, the boxes longevity depends a lot on where you mount it, the farther away from heat and vibration the better. Inside the car on vibration isolators being best. Jason |
