SPF handbrake/parking brake pads
Does anyone know of any options for purchase on the standard SPF handbrake pads (SUPERFORMANCE MKIII - HANDBRAKE PADS) for a 2007 built chassis #2303. I have been trying to get them from shopsuperformance through Hillbank for over 5 weeks but they are on back order. It is not their fault, but I need to get the job done. Thanks if you can help.

If those are the "crescent" shaped pads they are out of stock all over, I shipped my last sets to Texas and Qatar. I do have the round "Spot" type pads in stock as well as the discs.
You can however have them "relined"...find a good brake and clutch distributor and take the old pads to them. They can reline and re-rivet the new fricton material onto the existing backing plates. Be sure to check them against a flat surface, even new factory pads will have a "dish" and not have full contact with the disc. if they are not flat you can surface them on a sander. You will be amazed how much more holding power the brake has when all of the friction material meets the disc surface. |
Rick are you referring to the hand brake that supposedly clamps onto the rear brake rotors? If the spot type will work let me know and I'll order a set. If not I'll try to get them relined. How thick should the material be. Tom from Sunday auto transport.

Thanks guys. Emailed Olthoff this evening. I don't know why I didn't already think of that. Otherwise, I guess I will just have to be patient and wait.

I've got chassis 1022 and the parking brakes are two small crescent shaped clamps(?) that are on the rear rotors. Are these the ones that can be relined? Any help is appreciated. Will keep the 2x4 handy. Tom

Any brake pad that is riveted to the backing plate can be relined. In the old days every shop had an arbor press for setting the rivets that held the shoe to the backing plate and you could commonly purchase just shoes to re-attach to your existing backing plates.
Just find a decent clutch and brake supplier, very common in most mid to large size towns. |

You probably have the Wilwood SPOT parking brakes on your chassis. I don't believe the pad material is connected to the steel backing plate on this parking brake. The pad material is free floating. You can use the backing plate as a pattern for the pad material shape if you have pads made. You them only need to fit the brake material so it does not bind in the housing of the SPOT caliper. I have a drawing of the actual pad. I had a few sets made years ago trying to find a pad compound that worked better. Cost was an issue with such a small run of pads being hand made, so I never followed thru with the project. Remember that if you do have pads made to match the backing plated, when you adjust the pad material with sandpaper - It's not healthy stuff to inhale. I got my handbrake pads from Hillbank today. Thank you very much! Now I guess the fun begins on replacing the old ones with them.
