roll bar types
I have been looking closely at SPF cars recently, but they always have the single or double individual roll bars installed.
This week I find, not one, but two with full width roll bars. They have a bar that runs forward from the roll bar inboard past the passenger seat. I had not seen that before and wondered of that was an option,or maybe an older version? Good or bad? Standard or non standard. Looks like it would be a real solid roll bar, in the event you ever really needed it, but then again, it looked like the passenger would be constantly hitting their knees against the bar that runs forward. Does this make the car less valuable? I have noted in my search for a car that the ones with automatics sell for less than the ones with manual transmissions, so I was wondering if the roll bar style also impacts the price. |
My car has the full width roll bar with the forward support on the passenger side. That addition is for additional support and to allow for taking the car on the track. I cannot speak to how the forward support effects resale value. While it appears that the strut would be in the way, it is not as obtrusive as it appears. The forward strut can be removed from what I understand and you could either have the roll bar re-chromed, or I am thinking that you could buy one of the full width tops to the roll bar and switch them out.

It's not a traditional look, so it may make the car a tougher sale. Value should be the same, I would think. FIA has a forward brace. It doesn't feel like an inconvenience. Maybe someone can post pictures here, I've seen removable bars installed with some nice bockouts for the holes.

The full width bar is an option and can also be installed later as has the bar on this car:

The forward brace in the cockpit gives a good place to grab onto nice and low inside. That helps getting in and out and they aren't in the way much. You don't ever want to be bouncing off them of course.

Full Roll Bar
I had a full roll bar made for my SPF. Fitted and welded in place. I have pictures in my gallery

Is that welding at the top of the rollbar or is it a third brake light? Nice looking rollbars!

I had a plate welded to the center of the roll bar where it is braced and stuck a Superformance name plate on it. Really thought about a third brake light but thats about as far as I got.... Thanks We like the look and she has something to grab onto before yelling at me!!! :D |
