Installing a 5 or 6 point harness

I just took delivery of my SPF 1352 and would like to install racing harnesses.

Because of our local registration rules, they will have to be FIA and/or ECE compliant.

Sine I would like a rotary cam lock release, that means FIA then. ECE requires push button release.

But all the ones that I can find in Europe are either wrap around design (which is not going to work) or snap-on clips that hook into eyebolts.

Has anyone replaced the normal seat-belt bolts with eyebolts already? Thread should be standard 7/16 UNF. Is there enough clearance?

Also how would I hook the 2 shoulder belts up? Do the 2 clips fit into 1 eye bolt (from what I see, there is only 1 hole on each side in the cross beam behind the seats)

Anyone?

On my car the two shoulder belts are the Y format. So one belt disappears through a slot in the bulkhead to the rear. Remove a rear wheel and then you can see how it terminates with a sewn-on mounting that is bolted through a cross member. Obvious if you look at it. The cockpit and the trunk are separated by a few inches and that is where the cross member is. If your code will not permit the Y configuration then I think it will be somewhat tougher job. I would email Dennis Olthoff at Olthoff Racing with the question and then ask him to ship the pieces you need. I have cam locks now. I rather miss the old style to be honest. It had character.

The front strap bolts to a cross member of frame and the read seat straps clip to eye bolts mounted to frame.

I thought I read somewhere that several owners use separate shoulder straps and just bolted them down together. Can't find the post anymore though

I guess I will have to source belts with bolt on fittings on the shoulder strap, resp. a Y-style strap

Dan,
Send me an email offline. We can discuss exactly what you want to do.

I but my guess is the anchor points might be different for the shoulder straps, or are the frames identical on SPFs an Kirkhams?

Kirkham cars anchor their shoulder straps to the roll bar, its a built in horizontal bar welded to the hoop bar...

Look like I will have to install a crossbar onto the rollbar anyhow, as otherwise the shoulder straps will sit to low (I'm 6'4").

Dan

The originals used a cross bar that was adjustable for height...
