Low Beams Not Working (first night drive)
Hello all, my new (to me) #1764's headlights don't come on at the third (bottom) position of the dash switch; they only come on with the turn signal's back switch clicked on-high beams, accompanied by a light on the dash...
Whats wrong?

Wild guess is the button on the back of the turn signal switch to activate the high and low beams is weak. click it a couple of times.

Replace the headlight relay before you do anything else.

Could you simply have burned out low beams?

SPO1359 had the same issue. I found out the low beam lights did not work as I was driving from New Mexico to North Carolina. I replaced the headlight relay and the problem was solved.

Had the same thing happen. Get a real VW relay not a fakiedoo. Tried that too. It lasted a week

Anybody have a source/part number? I am fairly certain there are quite a few VW headlight relay variants?

I think this is the part number VW part DNI 0127
but Blas is the expert on Lectricty ;-)

The relay is a common point of failure, but I would start at the beginning.
Check all your fuses. I lost my low beams one time - had a bit of corrosion on the low beam fuse. Replaced the fuse and all was OK.

My goofy owners manual shows one transverse bank of fuses where the car has TWO longitudinal rows...Guess i pull them all (one at a time LOL)...The headlight relay seems to be a big aluminum affair just floating free in there??

Replaced the headlight relay, no luck, checked all the fuses under the dash, all good? how does one remove the headlights to check for low beam volts?
Why is the search function so horrid on this site? It looks like the same architecture as others i use, but the search here is really hit or miss...

Well i have a spare headlight relay; The headlights come off via a screw under the bezels; the sealed beams are just crummy old 6024 sealed beams, available at O'Reilleys for like a 10 spot each: Trouble was BOTH headlights had dead low beams...weird. Maybe fancier lights later but for now these will do.
