Ford 427 Windsor engine
I have a 351 windsor with tremec 3550. Looking to upgrade to a small block 427 cu inch from Ford. Suggestions on front or rear oil pan and need to upgrade transmission as well? Any clearance problem for the hood with the manifold they use?

I'd follow what you currently have, use it as a guide.
Your chassis may have a lot to do with the front/rear oil pan decision. For manifold height, find what you currently have on the manufacturers web page then look for the indicated height. Check the Ford site and the supplied manifold, find that height. The difference is how much hood clearance change you should have. Or at least it will be close. Often an air cleaner change will help with hood clearance. The new TKO-600 will handle more torque but how you drive will have a lot to do with what you need. Jim |

I agree the 3550 will do just fine.
Lainhart runs a 3550 behind his 65 side oiler with 620 hp / 630 tq for years. Hodges has a 408 with 530 hp / 540 tq with 11,000 miles on it. Both shift very easy and smooth. The 427W uses a 351W block so the outside of the motor will look the same. You could use the stock oil pan. Dwight |
Agree with previous comments - 427W is externally the same as your 351W, the differences are all internal. Well, that and increased torque and HP.

With a victor jr and holley 850, my 427W air cleaner misses the underside of the scoop by about a mm...i actually have to over tighten the top a bit to suck the nut down...
