Blower Fan Speed
 

I rode in a friends car tonight which I believe is a #23XX. I noticed that his car had a knob for multiple blower speeds and it produced WAY more air flow than my blower . My car is #1867 and it does NOT have knob for multiple blower speeds. Did SPF change this design or has someone wired up my multispeed blower for a single speed? I will be changing this as my friends setup was much more usable. If I can get my heater to blow like his then I can get a heated jacket and scrap the heated seats plan. My controls are laid out starting at the right of the steering wheel


*1st control-Pull knob for the actual heater
*2nd control-This is a push knob to squire the wiper fluid
*3rd control- This is the dimming control for the gauges
*Straight above the 3rd control- This is the electric fuel pump switch
*4th control-This is on the right side of the speedometer and it is the wiper speed control
*Straight above the 4th control- This is the switch that turns on the blower motor
*5th control-This is the horn push botton
*Straight above teh 5th control- This is the switch for the head lights LOW/OFF/HI
*My car has also been converted to a push button start "I personally can't stand this". I want to fix this and have my key start the car. I think I will remove the push button start and was thinking that that would be a good place to have a manual control to turn the fans prior to the thermostat doing it.

The newer series chassis have a multi speed blower. Not available when your car was built.
Removing the push button start is no big deal. You still have the original ignition switch in place I assume?
Basically just moving a wire.

Blas thanks for the info. I assume that a multi-speed blower can be installed in my car if I wish? That thing was awesome compared to what I have. Yes, my original ignition switch is in place.....the push button makes me think I'm in an AUDI I just do not like it. I guess I would like to convert the current flip switch that controls my 1 speed blower over to a manual on/off for my fans. I could then remove my push button start and maybe locate a mult-speed blower knob in this place. I would like to avoid putting any additional holes in the dash and just rearrange what I have

Blas, can you swap the single speed blower motor to a current multi-speed blower?

"SWAP" is not the word that comes to mind when considering replacing the single speed blower fan with a multi speed blower fan. Maybe "an adventure in disassembly, fabrication and wiring" would be a better descriptive phrase for the process. :rolleyes:
My wiring diagrams have a lot of extra details for the multi speed blower on the different chassis wiring versions.

As I mentioned earlier the push button start is a easy removal project.

Wow that kinda sucks. "Maybe" a harder blowning single unit is available or just going with heated seats may be the best solution. My heater doesn't do so great and I probably need to look under the dash and make sure all the vents are opened. The passenger side blows about 25% as hard as the driver side.

Update: I have been informed that you can now indeed order the new multi-speed blower unit for your car. The factory will pre-wire the new fan speed and position switchs for you. You will only need to wire in a power source for the new unit. The is no documentation available as to the similarity in mounting the new unit so some modifications will most likely be necessary. Consult with Hillbank's parts guy Dave for pricing and availability. He can contact me if he has any questions about this. Interested parties can send me an email and I will send a photo of the upgrade parts.

I actually sent a request to Dave yesterday afternoon to check with SPF and see what the options are. Thanks for the follow up and I will let you know what I hear back from Dave. This is something I am considering as long as it is not unreasonable.

Any updates on the new blower unit? easy to do?

Jacobsed. I'm Ace23 buddy. There are two doors on the blower case that allows the blown air to be directed to the windshield or on your feet. When I looked under the dash I observed one door open to the floor and the other was in the closed position. When I opened the closed door this allowed more flow of air to the floor. Although not as much force as my car yet it was better. My car 2423 has a switch that will change the flow to the windshield or floor. I believe the earlier car is something you would do manually. Correct me if I'm wrong. As far as getting a replacement fan there is an alternate fan that can be used but from what I recall was very pricey. Ace23 can fill you in on the details.

The factory can indeed supply a complete replacement blower package. Contact Dave at Hillbank for information. I have a photo of the replacement blower package if you are interested. Send an email to me and Ill forward it to you. I have no info on pricing and some mounting fabrication may be necessary I'm told.
And yes, the early cars had 2 manual door on the air box for directing heat to the foot boxes.
You will definitely need on of my SPF Wiring Diagrams if you plan on making the modification. The entire dash must be removed, but the blower swap is mostly plug and play I'm told. Very slick !
