Need help, noise in back
Was driving the other day and when coasting to a stop (only time you can hear anything) there was a king of quiet thud, thud, thud coming from the rear passenger side. It seems to sync with the rotation of the wheel.
Before I pull the wheel does anyone have any suggestions what to look for? Has this ever happened to your car? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

The reason I ask the chassis series is there was a problem with the rear axle nuts on some cars. Raise the back of the car and try to move the wheel in and out top to bottom. Another thing to check are the rear shock mounts and if an older car the bushings on the shocks, especially the lower bushings. Check rear caliper bolts too.

You might also want to take a look at the differential mounts. A few high HP cars have cracked the frame tab it mounts to.

Your car is at the tail end of a short series of chassis that could have a potential problem with the rear axel nuts. See Service Bulletin #0509. I have your email from when you purchased a Wiring Diagram from me, if it is still the same let me know and I will forward a copy. Or just email me and I'll send a copy along.

I took the wheels off a few months ago and it seems to me the back wheel did have a little play in it. I'll definitely be checking this first. |

I finally was able to pull the back wheel off today and get under the car for a visual inspection.
Re - Axle Nut I don't have the proper tools to check for tightness but I don't have the old style nut. It has what looks like a single Flanged Crimp Nut that was the first replacement for the old style ones. (I'll have to order new ones as a Superformance service bulletin that Blas was nice enough to send me says to use double nuts.)
When I was under the car I found what may be a / the problem (not sure if it would cause the thud, thud noise I was hearing though).
I've attached some pics of the rear suspension and the first 3 pics show the potential problem and the last pic is the same part on the other side which is how it should look. I can't tell if there should be a washer there or what but it's rubbing the paint off the frame (and hopefully not making the hole bigger!).
Can someone with more knowledge than me about these things tell me what the problem there looks like and if there is one would it be easy or hard to fix?

You may have more success with your photos if you follow this.
If you want the full size picture, then upload it to an album or a photo storage site like Photo Bucket or Google Photos and then copy the url of the picture and post that in your post where you want the picture to appear. With Google Photos you'll need to set sharing for each photo, or for the album if that's where you've put all photos, and use the URL for that photo or album. You will need to add the IMG tags unless you use Photo Bucket.
Example; [IMG] URL of your picture [/IMG] The [IMG] on both ends must be right next to the URL line with no space. I did this to stop it tying to make this a picture. |

I have 2626 and I had a problem with the rear axis nut, wouldn't tighten. Turned out the housing was defective. Superformance sent me a new one. |

Here are some more pics of the rear passenger control arm.
The big picture shows the good side with rubber bushing intact. The two smaller pics are of the other side and the rubber bushing is disappearing. I don't know what this piece looks like off the car so I'm not sure what's missing/defective.

That rear upper control arm bushing needs replacing.
Can anyone recommend a hi quality aftermarket bushing or should I order one from a Superformance dealer?

I believe you need to order it for Hillbank or your local dealer. Contact Dave at Hillbank or Rick Muck at Time Machines. Rick may have pieces on hand for you. You might need a spacer too.
Is the lug welded to the chassis damaged? there is a guy in the parts for sale area here that had a pair of lower control arms available. He may have other parts available?
