Hood latch adjustment

The hood latches on my mklll (3174) are so tight I can’t even turn the handle to activate the latch. How does one adjust this?

The hood is currently off the car. Started the 427sr up yesterday for the first time and it sounds awesome. Currently have straps pulling the sidepipes in and running the engine to hopefully bend them into position.

Take the brackets off of the firewall where the handles slide under. Place them in a vice and bend the part that does not attach to the firewall upward in order to give the hood latch more clearance. I had the opposite problem where the latch was too loose and followed the same procedure by bending the latch downward. Worked like a charm.
I used a precision tool to bend the bracket; it's called a hammer😁

My problem is with the latch assembly mounted on the hood. It’s almost impossible to rotate the chrome latch handle to get the lever to come out.

These come off the hood easily. Take it off and take it apart to see what the problem is.
