Period correct cowl mounted mirror conversion?

Another thing on my to do list. I hate the windshield mounted rear view mirror on my generation of car and am switching over to the vintage cowl mount style just above the dash. For you original Cobra buffs out there, I would like to know the following:

1. Was the bar that goes from the top to the bottom of the windshield frame in the center period correct? I'm pretty sure this was to keep the windshield frame from pulling apart at speed with the soft top on.

2. If you had the windshield bar, did the car use the slider style mirror that clamped to the bar and could be positioned anywhere or did it still cowl mount the mirror? Both styles are readily available.

Thanks!

In poking around the interwebnet, it doesn't look like the rod was an original feature...it sure made getting the new windshield into the frighteningly wambly chrome just waiting to flake off brass frame a bit more secure though...another nice thing about the off the cowl mirror is that it's clear of the tonneau cover.

Ok, I figured out the answers to this question. The rod was added to keep the top and bottom of windshield frames from separating and was never on original cars. Therefor the mirror was located on the cowl above the dash. As the body was aluminum, the mirror was located where the cowl was rounded down towards the dash as that's were the frame tube was. The only downside to that location is it is a bit in the way of the cockpit cover but not too bad.
