Clutch reservoir replacement
My stock Wilwood clutch reservoir has a slow leak. I have tried everything to stop the leak to no avail. I am contemplating replacing the plastic reservoir with a billet aluminum reservoir.
Could those of you who have replaced your reservoir please tell me if the bolts in the reservoir housing are nutted on the back side of the firewall behind the dash and if so, how difficult is it to access the nuts? My car is a 1500 series. Thanks in advance. Warren |

Assuming a SPF? You have to make a bracket to get around the throttle linkage: I used an aluminum c channel, res bolts to one side channel to fire wall. If you are careful you don’t have to bleed, just keep the hose elevated...

I replaced the leaking clutch reservoir on my Superformance (#2144) with a billet model several years ago. The worst part of the whole ordeal was removing the nuts on the inside of the firewall----having someone helping you is not a bad idea. Once they were removed and the bolts out, it was pretty straightforward process. Mind you, as noted by Tortuga, you do have to fabricate a bracket to hold the reservoir and avoid interference with the throttle rod. I used a piece of 1/8" aluminum (which I polished) for the bracket and bent and cut to fit. All told, it took about 4 hours from start to finish for the whole project. |

It was my understanding that the mounting bolts were nutted on the back side of the firewall underneath the dash and it was a pain to get access to the nuts. From your description it seems that there are nutserts or a threaded plate instead for the mounting bolts? The pic was very helpful. Thank you. Warren |
Or you can have a custom mount fabbed from billet. The reservoir and front bracket were sourced from a now-gone hot rod parts house. The firewall bracket was billet and shaped to clear the throttle rods.

Sailfish, thanks for the feedback. It seems from you description and that of Tortuga that some reservoirs are nutted on the back side and others may have nutserts?

My reservoir was definitely nutted on the pedal side of the firewall. And a real pain to remove. Good luck. Not a hard job, just challenging. |
