1997 Superformance for $35K!

Bring A Trailer just had an auction finish on a 1997 Superformance Cobra that looked really nice, sell for $35K!! Man-Oh-Man did that seller get screwed and did that buyer make out like a bandit. Here's a link:

I believe it was an early car that needed some attention. Might have been a thread on here.

I guess the owner didn't reply to questions guys had.. Kind of a red flag there.

Why does it say "built from a kit?" Did someone take apart an SPF first?

Of all the cars bought on BaT, (myself and friends) no matter how they were presented, they all needed work to make them right, and a couple never got right. Except one did come as presented.

I feel BaT is a kinda dumping sit. I don't buy there anymore. It is and can be a good indicator of where the market is.

Mark.

Mark,

Curiously, what kinds of cars and price range are you referring to on BaT?

Cobras?

A friend bought an Ultima GTR that in the add looked like a great build ready to run. When it arrived that was not the case. Same for a Porsche Safari, and Bronco. My self 914-6 that arrived needing complete motor (it was listed as just rebuilt), and a 911 that was close enough to inspect that was as listed in great condition.

To get the Ultima cost what it was bought for to get right, Bronco still not right, the 914-6 is going on almost a year in the shop. Live an Learn, and we now just expect that any car bought there will need something.

You can run my tag Moto_ One on BaT and see what I have bid on and bought.

That is really unfortunate! I have had similar experiences and it can really jade you. I don't think cars/sellers like this are limited to BaT! I have found that BaT auctions have way more information available than any other venue for potential buyers.
