Superformance emergency brake question
About a week ago, I posted about a friend trying to sell a deceased relative's Superformance SPO2479. He had to drive it from his relative's house to his since the house is for sale also and, not being familiar with the car, he didn't notice the emergency brake handle and drove it the entire way with the emergency brake on. Now, the brake doesn't work - actually, since he's never driven the car before, he's not sure if it worked before the drive. I've offered to take a look at it but my car is not a Superformance so I'm not familiar with the emergency brake mechanism. The only information I have is in the car's description - "All Superformance MKIIIs come standard with aluminum Limited Slip Differentials and Power Disc 4 Piston Wilwood Brakes". Any advice on what was most likely damaged and what I should look for (other than common sense looking at the mechanism and figuring it out)? All he can tell me is that he can hear the ratcheting mechanism but no resistance to the handle. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have the directions to adjust the driveshaft parking brake if you need. Contact me directly. NOT a fun job.

Crawl under the car and see if you have a cable going to each rear caliper. If so, you don’t have a driveshaft parking brake. The cable engages the rear brakes when the parking brake lever is pulled. Pull a rear wheel and check the thickness of the pads. If still sufficient thickness, adjust the parking brake cable at the handle. The cable can be adjusted by removing the passenger seat (4 bolts under the car) and the boot around the lever.

Thanks for all the feedback. After reviewing all this and also speaking with a cobra reseller, I've decided to recommend that he just leave it alone. Even if new pads were available, which they are not, replacing them and adjusting the brake would only result in a modest improvement, if at all.
Thanks again, Kevin |
MKIII Handbrake Pads
1 Attachment(s)
Hi Kevin,
It seems that there is a bit of confusion with the availability of the handbrake pads that are on the driveshaft for the MKIII. We do have these in stock and have special pricing for the Cobra Club. Feel free to contact me at 9499001961 if you or your customer is in need. :) Adri |
Some states may require a safety check before one can register the vehicle. A non functioning parking brake may make the vehicle fail the inspection.
Simple fix on your part. |
