More on the 3M protectors

I have just noticed a large chip in the driver’s side rear fender shield. The shield took most of the damage, but I have a chip to repair. What is the recommended removal process? On of my buddies claims that paint will peel off with the film. I don’t agree but would like advice on how to remove the film.

Regards,
Jerry

GENTLY use a heat gun or even a hair dryer and gradually pull the film. For my rear wheel flares I used spray on truck bed liner and it doesn't chip. It's not noticeable since my paint is black, with the faintest purple haze. I don't know how it would be removed but then, why remove it if it's not chipped. My 2¢

On the hips I have used Plastidip (rubber) for last 7 years.

Lay down 3M 1/4" pinstripe masking tape for the compound curved outline.
Overlap with 1/2" painter's tape used to attach plastic or paper
to protect from overspray.

Spray one coat with even coverage then wait 1-2 minutes.
Repeat this 10-12 times.
You want to build up the thickness in layers.
After the last layer is applied, wait no more than 2 minutes.
Pull off everything except the pinstriping masking tape..
Lastly, carefully pull off pinstripe masking tape at sharp angle.
Do this while Plastidip is still soft but not liquid wet.
This produces a nice clean parting line.

If you need to remove or redo, simply peel one edge
and slowly pull off in one single piece.

A Plastidip gravel spat leaves no residue, air bubbles or worries about paint
damage. During application just be sure enough coats are applied
so if removal is necessary, it will come off in one piece.

The shown photo is a 4 year old Plastidip spat.
It has repelled everything so far.

If damaged from debris strike, simply tape off and spray coats over it.
Comes in multiple colors including clear, white, gray, gloss and matte black.
One can will cover both rear hips as shown.
