Superformance rear end

I have a new SPF (2473). Can Anyone give me a description of the factory rear end in my car ( rear axle ratio)? I didn't order anything special, just the standard rear. Thanks

You should have a 3.46 ratio differential in your car.

older cars had Ford IRS rear ends ( 3.73 ratio ) , from a 94-97 TBird I recall .

The newer ones, like in your late serial car, are BDR rear ends, which I believe are the same ones in the Brock/SPF coupe and have the lower 3.46 ratio as Archrms stated.

The local SPF dealer tells me it is probably a 3.46, unless you ordered something else.

So, does that mean my 2001 SPF car has a Ford T-bird diff in it? And would it have the same gear ratio as the newer SPF cars?

I have SPF642. I've got the 3.73 with a Tremec 0.68 OD. I really wish I had the 3.46 with a 0.80 OD. It would make the the gap from 4th to 5th more in line with the first 4 gears. It would also yield about the same final gear ratio 2.53 vs 2.77.

Yes, you would have the Ford differential but it would be 3.73 not the 3.46 used in the newer cars :D

I'm no expert, but I was told the rear end is an aussie unit from BTR. Similar to a dana 44, but not exactly the same. Different gear sets are somewhat difficult to find if your looking for a ratio swap. I have the same in my SPF.

Daryl - thanks for the memory jog, you forced me to go back to my notes . you are right , it is a BTR ( not BDR ) rear end - my goof .

my notes from late March 2005 from SPF -USA HQ ( in Virginia then ) said :

They were switching the roadster MK III rear ends from a Ford unit to a BTR unit . This was to occur at about SPF chassis number 2068 .

BTR was a susidiary of Dana in Australia - and BTR was also the supplier of the Coupe rear end . although limited slip might be different , hydraulic on the coupe and cone on the MK III . at that time someone told me the BTR part number was " 0180-000007".

supposedly several rear ratios were available with the BTR unit , but 3.46 was what SPF was going to use then as their standard ratio .

now, why I hard copied and kept that email note is beyond me ...

as an aside, it was about the same serial numbered chassis where SPF also stopped using the center rod on the windshield . trivia for ya ...now, when they started using the center rod , can't help ya there . my old 156 does not have one . Bill.
